What Skilax is
- How it works: Highnoon’s leaflet says sodium picosulfate is a stimulant laxative that, after metabolism in the colon, stimulates the lining and increases the movement of the large intestine, and that it usually works within 6 to 12 hours.
- Highnoon’s leaflet gives the condition of sale in English and Urdu: “صرف مستند ڈاکٹر کے نسخہ کے مطابق ہی دوا فروخت اور استعمال کی جائے۔” (to be sold and used only on a qualified doctor’s prescription). So we dispense it on prescription only.
- “Sulfolax” is another name for the same ingredient: in a 2019 correction, DRAP changed Skilax’s registered composition from “Sulfolax” to “Sodium Picosulfate (Sulfolax)” and told Highnoon to market it with the corrected composition; Highnoon’s product page still gives Sulfolax as the generic name.
- DRAP notifies no price for Skilax: its price index has no Skilax entry, and DRAP’s registry lists every pack as de-controlled with no approved price.
What is in each form, with DRAP registration
From the label claims in DRAP’s registry.
| Form | Ingredient | Amount |
|---|---|---|
| Drops (DRAP reg. 004584) | Ingredient: Sodium picosulfate (Sulfolax) | Amount: 7.5 mg per ml |
| Tablet 5 mg (DRAP reg. 021595) | Ingredient: Sodium picosulfate (Sulfolax) | Amount: 5 mg per tablet |
Highnoon’s leaflet says each ml of the drops contains about 20 drops, so the drops and the tablets cannot be swapped by counting. Your doctor sets the dose.
DRAP also registers a Skilax liquid with a different strength, 5 mg in each 5 ml (registry entry); it is not the drops we sell.
What it is used for
Pakistan’s leaflet and the UK label give different uses, so both are shown.
| Source | Uses |
|---|---|
| Pakistan, Highnoon (Skilax) | Constipation; emptying the colon before investigation procedures or surgery. |
| UK, Dulcolax Adult Pico Liquid | Short-term relief of occasional constipation. |
How to take it
The dose depends on age and on why it is used, according to Highnoon’s Pakistani leaflet for Skilax, so the choice belongs to your prescriber. Take it as they direct.
- Timing: Highnoon’s leaflet says it usually works within 6 to 12 hours, and gives the adult dose for constipation at bedtime.
- Children: Highnoon’s leaflet gives separate doses for children over 10, children from 4 to 10, and babies and children from 1 month to 4 years, by weight. Only a doctor should set a child’s dose.
- Storage: Highnoon’s leaflet says do not store above 30°C, keep it dry and protect it from light; do not use the drops if the bottle’s seal is broken.
