What these allergy tablets are approved for
Both are antihistamines for allergy symptoms. We sell Rigix without asking for a prescription. We dispense Kestine, both strengths, on prescription, as Highnoon’s Pakistani leaflet requires.
- Rigix is made by AGP Limited. UK product information for the same medicine lists the relief of nose and eye symptoms of hay fever and year-round allergy, and of long-lasting hives (chronic idiopathic urticaria), in adults and children aged 6 and over. AGP gives the tablets for adults and children above 12, and we sell them for that age.
- Kestine is made by Highnoon Laboratories. Highnoon’s product information: “the symptomatic treatment of allergic rhinitis (seasonal and perennial), whether or not associated with allergic conjunctivitis, and chronic urticaria.”
Drowsiness and driving: where the labels differ
Both can make some people sleepy. Each label puts it differently, so here is what each says.
Rigix. The NHS says its medicine is more likely to make you sleepy than loratadine, desloratadine or fexofenadine, and lists feeling sleepy or tired in more than 1 in 10 people. In UK product information, sleepiness was reported in 9.63% of adults on 10 mg, against 5.00% on placebo. The US label: “Be careful when driving a motor vehicle or operating machinery.”
Kestine. The Spanish label for the same medicine lists drowsiness among the three most frequent side effects in trials of 5,708 people, and says that at recommended doses it does not affect driving, but some people may feel drowsy or dizzy. The Japanese label is stricter: because it may cause drowsiness, patients should be cautioned about driving.
Know how a tablet affects you before you drive. Which one suits you is your doctor’s or pharmacist’s call.
The allergy tablets we stock
Rigix and Kestine, the two on this page.
This is not a list of every allergy tablet sold in Pakistan, only the ones we stock and can vouch for. Your doctor or pharmacist can tell you about others, and whether an allergy tablet is right for your symptoms at all.
How to check you have a genuine pack
Check every pack before you take a tablet.
- The carton and blister are sealed and undamaged, with the batch number and expiry date printed clearly on both.
- The batch number on the carton matches the one on the blister inside.
- The carton carries a DRAP registration number. Check it against the records below.
- Buy from a licensed pharmacy that sources from authorised distributors.
DRAP has reported a falsified Rigix in which the carton and blister batch numbers did not match. The batch numbers are on the Rigix page.
DRAP registration
- RIGIX 10mg TABLET (011248), AGP Limited. DRAP’s registry shows: Provisionally Active, “Approved / Verified”.
- Kestine 10mg Tablet (017681), Highnoon Laboratories Ltd. DRAP’s registry shows: Active, “Approved / Verified”.
DRAP publishes no definition of this verification flag, so we can’t tell you what it means. DRAP describes its registered products index as a provisional list that “cannot be used as a reference for any purpose”. Checked against the registry between and .
Frequently asked questions
Which tablet is best for allergy in Pakistan?
There isn’t one best tablet: which suits you is your doctor’s or pharmacist’s call. The two allergy tablets we stock, Rigix and Kestine, are both antihistamines approved for hay fever and year-round allergy and for long-lasting hives. They differ most in how their labels describe drowsiness and driving.
Is Rigix tablet anti-allergy?
Yes. Rigix is an antihistamine. UK product information for the same medicine lists the relief of nose and eye symptoms of hay fever and year-round allergy, and of long-lasting hives (chronic idiopathic urticaria), in adults and children aged 6 and over. AGP, the maker, gives the tablets for adults and children above 12, and we sell them for that age.
Which tablet is good for skin allergy?
For long-lasting hives, both tablets we stock list it: UK product information for cetirizine, Rigix’s medicine, lists chronic idiopathic urticaria, and Highnoon’s Pakistani leaflet for Kestine lists idiopathic chronic urticaria. Highnoon’s leaflet also lists allergic dermatitis, a skin allergy; the UK cetirizine product information does not. For a rash that isn’t hives, see a doctor first: which rash it is decides the treatment.
