Choosing a multivitamin for you
Formulas differ by who they are made for, and the label shows where: mainly iron, folic acid, B12 and vitamin D.
| Who it’s for | What it focuses on | Our pick |
|---|---|---|
| General adults | A broad A to Z spread of vitamins and minerals at everyday amounts | Our pick: Vitrum Tablets or Roxvita Tablets; Centrum Adults Multivitamin for a branded option |
| Women | Usually more iron and folic acid than a general formula | Our pick: Nutrifactor Vitamax Women One A Day |
| Men | Usually no iron, or very little | Our pick: Route2 Health Men One Daily |
| Over 50 | Usually more B12 and vitamin D, which are absorbed or made less well with age | Our pick: Centrum Silver Multivitamin |
Which is the best multivitamin for women? Pakistan’s pharmacies stock several women’s formulas, and the useful comparison is the amount of iron and folic acid on each label, not the name on the box. The same goes for men’s and over-50 formulas.
What “A to Z” actually means
“A to Z” is a marketing description, not a standard, so read the label rather than the name.
Two products sold as A to Z can contain different nutrients at different amounts. One may include zinc and iron, another may leave them out. If you are looking for an A to Z multivitamin tablet in Pakistan, compare the ingredient tables side by side.
A B complex with zinc, such as Surbex Z, is not a full multivitamin either. It covers a narrower set of nutrients, so check its label against a multivitamin’s before you swap one for the other.

Do you actually need one
For most people eating a balanced diet the benefit of a daily multivitamin is modest, but there are times it makes more sense.
- Your diet is restricted: vegetarian, low appetite, or you often skip meals
- During pregnancy, when your doctor advises a supplement
- While recovering from an illness, if your doctor suggests one
- Later in life, when appetite and variety in meals fall
If tiredness or low energy is the reason you are looking, a blood test is worth more than a general supplement. When it shows a specific deficiency, such as low iron, B12 or vitamin D, your doctor can treat that gap directly.
A multivitamin doesn’t boost immunity on its own. Vitamins such as C and D and minerals such as zinc contribute to normal immune function, which is what the labels support.
Taking it properly
Taken as the label says, a multivitamin is simple; problems come from doubling up or stacking supplements.
- Take it with or after meals. Food helps absorption and is easier on the stomach.
- One a day, unless the label says otherwise. Never more than the label states.
- Take it at the same time each day so it becomes routine.
- Bright yellow urine afterwards is normal. It comes from vitamin B2.
- Warning: If you miss one, don’t double up. Take the next one as usual.
- Warning: Taking a multivitamin alongside other supplements can push some nutrients too high. Tell your pharmacist what else you take.
- Warning: If you are pregnant or planning to be, ask your doctor first. Some formulas contain vitamin A, which isn’t suitable in pregnancy at high amounts.
- Warning: Keep the bottle out of reach of children. Iron in adult formulas can be dangerous for a small child.
Frequently asked questions
What is a multivitamin used for?
A multivitamin tops up the vitamins and minerals you get from food. It is most useful when your diet is limited, and it doesn’t replace a balanced diet. The vitamins in it contribute to normal energy metabolism and normal immune function, but it isn’t a treatment for any illness.
Which multivitamin tablet is best in Pakistan?
There isn’t a single best one. The best multivitamin tablets in Pakistan for you are the ones whose label fits who you are and what your diet lacks: a women’s formula with more iron and folic acid, a men’s formula with little or no iron, or an over-50 formula with more B12 and vitamin D. The label matters more than the brand.
Is it good to take multivitamins daily?
For most adults, one a day at the label dose is fine, but if you eat a varied diet the benefit is modest. Problems come from taking more than the label states or combining several supplements. If you take other medicines or supplements, or are pregnant, check with your pharmacist or doctor first.
What is the best daily multivitamin?
The one that matches your age, sex and diet, taken once daily as the label says. Compare labels for iron, folic acid, B12 and vitamin D rather than choosing on brand. If a blood test has shown a specific deficiency, treating that gap directly does more than any general multivitamin.
How much do multivitamins cost in Pakistan?
Our multivitamins cost Rs 475 to Rs 1,800 for 30 tablets, about Rs 16 to Rs 60 per tablet. General formulas cost Rs 475 to Rs 661, while women’s, men’s, adult and over-50 formulas cost Rs 1,200 to Rs 1,800.
