Face Wash in Pakistan
The right face wash depends on your skin type: oily, acne-prone, sensitive or dry. Whatever your skin, the American Academy of Dermatology advises a gentle, non-abrasive cleanser that does not contain alcohol, used no more than twice a day and after sweating. Our pharmacists have sorted our shelf by skin type, and we make no skin-lightening claims.

How to pick by your skin type
Start with your skin, then check what is in the wash.
| Your skin | What to look for | Here |
|---|---|---|
| Oily | What to look for: A gentle, non-abrasive cleanser that does not contain alcohol, used no more than twice a day and after sweating (AAD). | Here: Himalaya Purifying Neem, described for normal to oily skin; charcoal washes from Himalaya and Saeed Ghani. |
| Acne-prone, with blackheads or whiteheads | What to look for: Salicylic acid works best on whiteheads and blackheads because it unclogs pores and exfoliates the skin; benzoyl peroxide is especially effective at treating mild pimples (AAD). | Here: Anti-acne washes: Clariderm, Acnegen and Triac, though their pack fronts don’t name either ingredient. Ask our pharmacist which suits you. |
| Sensitive or dry | What to look for: Avoid products that can irritate your skin, including astringents, toners and exfoliants (AAD). | Here: Metafil Gentle Skin Cleanser, described for dry and sensitive skin. |
| Dull or uneven-looking | What to look for: A brightening wash cleans like any other; it is not a treatment for dark patches. | Here: Garnier Bright Complete Vitamin C, and Maxdif Skin Brightening with vitamin C and niacinamide. |
How to wash your face
Twice a day is enough.
- Wet your face with lukewarm water and apply the cleanser with your fingertips: the AAD says a washcloth, mesh sponge or anything other than your fingertips can irritate your skin.
- Don’t scrub: the AAD says scrubbing irritates the skin, and the NHS says it can make acne worse.
- Rinse with lukewarm water and pat dry with a soft towel.
- Wash once in the morning and once at night, and after sweating heavily, as the AAD advises.
From the AAD’s face washing guide and the NHS acne page.
Salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide
The two acne ingredients you will see most on face washes.
- Warning: Benzoyl peroxide bleaches fabric: the AAD says it will bleach clothing, sheets, pillow cases and towels, and the British Association of Dermatologists says it can also bleach your hair.
- The AAD advises starting with a product that contains 2.5% benzoyl peroxide to avoid dry, irritated skin or a burning sensation; the British Association of Dermatologists says there is little evidence that 10% is significantly more effective than 2.5%, and more risk of irritation.
- The British Association of Dermatologists says it is common for some acne treatments to make your skin more sensitive to sunlight.
- The British Association of Dermatologists says it is not true that acne occurs as a result of poor hygiene or dirt on the skin.
From the AAD’s guides to adult acne and acne in darker skin tones, and the British Association of Dermatologists’ pages on benzoyl peroxide and skin cleansing.
Pregnant or trying to get pregnant? The AAD advises talking with your obstetrician or dermatologist before using salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide.
When to see a doctor
The NHS advises seeing a GP if:
- You’ve tried treating your acne yourself but it’s not getting better.
- Warning: You have lots of spots, or the spots are deep, painful or causing scars.
- Warning: You have signs of a skin infection, such as hot, swollen and red skin.
- Acne is affecting your mental health.
From the NHS acne page. The AAD adds that dark spots left after acne clears are also a reason to see a dermatologist.

Not medicines, and no lightening claims
The face washes on this page are cosmetics, not medicines.
- When we searched DRAP’s drug registry on 5 November 2026, none of these face washes was a registered drug. Some share a name with a registered medicine that is a different product: Acnegen cream (DRAP 070195) contains azelaic acid, and Acnex Gel (DRAP 084502) contains clindamycin and tretinoin.
- Some face wash packs and listings say they brighten skin or reduce tan or dark spots. A face wash cleans your skin; we make no claim that any of them lightens it. For what to avoid in creams sold as whitening, see our whitening creams safety guide.
Frequently asked questions
Which face wash is best for oily skin in Pakistan?
There is no single best one: choose a gentle, non-abrasive cleanser that suits your skin, and use it no more than twice a day, as the American Academy of Dermatology advises. On our shelf, Himalaya Purifying Neem is described for normal to oily skin; for spots and blackheads, look for a wash with salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide, or ask our pharmacist.
Can You Use Salicylic Acid Face Wash Every Day?
The American Academy of Dermatology advises washing your face up to twice a day and after sweating, and says salicylic acid works best on whiteheads and blackheads because it unclogs pores and exfoliates the skin. If your skin becomes dry or irritated, wash less often and ask a pharmacist.
Is any acne treatment safe to use during pregnancy?
Ask your doctor first. The American Academy of Dermatology says salicylic acid is generally considered safe when used for a limited time, and benzoyl peroxide is considered safe in limited amounts, but advises talking with your obstetrician or dermatologist before using either while pregnant.
Treating acne? Is it time to see a dermatologist?
The NHS advises seeing a GP if treating acne yourself isn’t helping, if you have lots of spots or deep, painful spots or scarring, if you have signs of a skin infection, or if acne is affecting your mental health. The American Academy of Dermatology says deep, painful pimples are unlikely to clear with products you can buy in a store. For acne creams, see our acne creams guide.
