Collagen supplements in Pakistan come as powders, caplets, tablets, sachets and liquid shots, made from fish or from a source the maker doesn’t state. Before you buy, check the source animal and any halal statement on the pack, and compare the price per gram of collagen. We list with a price only the collagen products whose source is printed on the pack or stated by the maker, and we make no claims about what collagen does.

Products whose source animal is not stated are not listed with a price: ask us on WhatsApp, and we will read the pack for you.
The price per gram of collagen on each card is our calculation from the price and the collagen content the pack or listing gives: 1,000 mg in each Versus caplet, and 5,000 mg in each 10 g of MediGreen powder. The Bioturmeric pack doesn’t say how much collagen each tablet contains.
Is collagen halal?
It depends on the source animal and how it was slaughtered.
- LPPOM, the halal inspection body of the Indonesian Ulema Council, says the source of collagen must come from halal animals slaughtered according to sharia, and describes fish-skin collagen as an alternative for halal ingredients.
- A Hanafi fatwa published by Darulfiqh says collagen derived from halal animals not slaughtered according to Islamic rites is unlawful for consumption.
- None of the packs we read prints a halal logo. Where a maker says its collagen is halal certified, it names no certifying body.

What the evidence says
We make no claims about skin, joints or ageing, and here is why.
- In 2011 the European Food Safety Authority concluded that a cause and effect relationship had not been established between collagen hydrolysate and the maintenance of joints.
- Harvard’s Nutrition Source says non-industry funded research on collagen supplements is lacking, and that with a collagen supplement it is unknown what exactly it contains or whether it will do what the label promotes.
- WebMD notes that the US FDA has not reviewed collagen for safety and effectiveness.
Cautions
Check these before you buy.
- Warning: Fish allergy: WebMD’s collagen peptides monograph says that if you are allergic to fish, you should read the label carefully and talk to your health care provider before taking collagen.
- Warning: Pregnancy and breastfeeding: WebMD says it is not known if or how collagen could affect pregnancy or harm a fetus, or whether it passes into breast milk.
- Source: WebMD says most collagen supplements come from chicken, pigs or cows, and some from fish skins, so if you have dietary restrictions, read the label carefully to see where the ingredients came from.
Registration in Pakistan
These are food supplements, not registered drugs.
When we searched DRAP’s drug registry on 5 November 2026, none of these brands was listed as a registered drug. DRAP’s Health & OTC product index was unavailable when we tried to check. Under S.R.O. 1688(I)/2026 of 6 October 2026, DRAP notified food supplements in pharmaceutical dosage forms as therapeutic goods under the DRAP Act, 2012.
Frequently asked questions
Can Muslims take collagen?
It depends on where the collagen comes from. LPPOM, the halal inspection body of the Indonesian Ulema Council, says the source of collagen must come from halal animals slaughtered according to sharia, and that fish-skin collagen is an alternative for halal ingredients. A Hanafi fatwa published by Darulfiqh says collagen from halal animals not slaughtered according to Islamic rites is unlawful. Check the pack for the source animal and a halal mark, and ask the maker or a scholar if you are unsure.
Which collagen supplements here are from fish?
Versus Marine Collagen prints wild cod on its pack, MediGreen says its Collagen BZ is fish collagen, and the Bioturmeric pack says fish collagen. For the other collagen products we can source, the maker does not state the source animal, so we don’t list them with a price until we have read it on the pack.
Is collagen safe in pregnancy?
It isn’t known. WebMD’s collagen peptides monograph says it is not known if or how collagen could affect pregnancy or harm a fetus, or whether it passes into breast milk, and advises telling your health care provider if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant.
Are collagen supplements approved for health claims?
Not for joints, according to the European Union’s food safety body: in 2011 the European Food Safety Authority concluded that a cause and effect relationship had not been established between collagen hydrolysate and the maintenance of joints. WebMD notes the US FDA has not reviewed collagen for safety and effectiveness, and Harvard’s Nutrition Source says non-industry funded research on collagen supplements is lacking.
