What Nuberol Forte is
A tablet with two medicines in it: paracetamol 650 mg, a painkiller, and orphenadrine citrate 50 mg, a muscle relaxant. Made by The Searle Company Limited.
- Registered with DRAP under number 027196. DRAP’s registry gives a registration date of 3 July 2001 and The Searle Company Limited, Lahore, as the holder.
- Searle’s prescribing information (July 2021) describes the carton as 15 tablets in three blister strips of 5. We sell the carton of 15.
- DRAP’s notified price index has no entry for Nuberol Forte tablets (searched 16 October 2026: only Nuberol-P suspensions are listed). DRAP’s registry record gives an approved price of Rs 200 for the 15-tablet pack. We list a lower price until we have read the price printed on our own carton.
- We dispense it on prescription: we ask for a photo of your prescription with your order, checked by our pharmacist. This is our own policy; no Pakistani regulator document we found states its prescription status.
What is in each tablet
Two active ingredients, from the label claim in DRAP’s registry.
| Active ingredient | Per tablet | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Paracetamol | Per tablet: 650 mg | What it does: Painkiller and fever reducer |
| Orphenadrine citrate | Per tablet: 50 mg | What it does: Skeletal muscle relaxant |
DRAP’s label claim reads: “Paracetamol .....650mg Orphenadrine Citrate.......50mg”. What each one does is from Searle’s prescribing information: “Orphenadrine is a skeletal muscle relaxant. Paracetamol is an analgesic and antipyretic.”
What it is used for
Is Nuberol Forte a painkiller? Partly. Its paracetamol relieves pain; its orphenadrine relaxes muscle in spasm. Searle’s prescribing information lists it for headaches linked to muscle spasm in the head and neck, and for sprains, strains and other injuries of the limbs and back.
| Source | Uses it lists |
|---|---|
| Searle’s prescribing information (July 2021) | “Tension headache, occipital headaches associated with spasm of skeletal muscles in the region of the head and neck. Acute and traumatic conditions of the limbs and trunk: sprains, strains, whiplash injuries, acute torticollis, prolapsed intervertebral disc.” |
| Searle’s product web page (undated) | Painful muscle spasm with chronic low back pain, sprains, strains, prolapsed disc, muscle injury, non-articular rheumatism, tension headache, period pain (dysmenorrhoea) and other painful muscular conditions. |
The two disagree. Chronic low back pain and period pain are on Searle’s web page but not in its prescribing information. We follow the prescribing information.
How much paracetamol is too much
Paracetamol is in many medicines sold in Pakistan, so two of them taken together can add up to more than you meant. Product labels set daily maximums for paracetamol, and the US rule requires one on every non-prescription label. They don’t all set the same one.
| Source | What it says |
|---|---|
| Searle’s prescribing information (July 2021) | “Concomitant treatment with other medicines that contain orphenadrine or paracetamol is not recommended.” It states no maximum daily amount. |
| US FDA, 21 CFR 201.326 | The liver warning required on US non-prescription paracetamol (acetaminophen) medicines: “Severe liver damage may occur if you take” more than the daily maximum, or take it “with other drugs containing acetaminophen”, or with 3 or more alcoholic drinks every day. The rule leaves the number to each product’s label. |
| UK, Panadol Original SmPC (March 2025) | “Do not use with any other paracetamol-containing products.” |
| UK, Medley Paracetamol 500 mg SmPC (August 2025) | “Under no circumstances must the daily dose of paracetamol exceed four grams in 24 hours.” |
| Ireland, Rowalief 500 mg SmPC (June 2025) | Adults, including older people: “to a maximum of 3 g daily”. Lower maximums for children, by weight. In people who misuse alcohol, “The daily dose should not exceed 2 grams”. |
| Ireland, Paracetamol 500 mg Capsules SmPC (March 2025) | Everyone over 16: “should not exceed 60 mg/kg/day (up to a maximum of 2 g per day)” for anyone who weighs less than 50 kg, is dehydrated or malnourished, or drinks heavily (“chronic alcoholism”), unless a doctor directs otherwise. Below about 33 kg, the 60 mg/kg figure is the lower one. |
These are maximums for paracetamol as a substance, not a dose of Nuberol Forte. How much Nuberol Forte to take is for your prescriber and the pack.
Other medicines with paracetamol in them, from DRAP’s registry: Panadol tablets (paracetamol 500 mg), and every other Searle product sold under the Nuberol name that we found: Nuberol (450 mg, with orphenadrine), Nuberol Plus (450 mg, with caffeine and orphenadrine), Nuberol She (500 mg, with pamabrom), Nuberol Duo (500 mg, with ibuprofen: 150 mg or 200 mg), Nuberol Suspension, Nuberol-P Forte Suspension and the hospital Nuberol-P Infusion. Before taking any other medicine with Nuberol Forte, check its label for paracetamol.
If you have taken too much, get medical help straight away even if you feel well. Searle’s prescribing information (July 2021): “Symptoms during the first two days of acute poisoning by paracetamol do not reflect the potential seriousness of the intoxication”, and “Prompt treatment is essential even when there are no obvious symptoms.”
Orphenadrine: the ingredient people don’t know they’re taking
Orphenadrine is an anticholinergic medicine. That is why it can cause a dry mouth, blurred vision and trouble passing urine.
| Source | What it says |
|---|---|
| Searle’s prescribing information (July 2021) | Older people “may be more susceptible to anticholinergic side effects at regular doses” and should be advised to take a reduced dosage. “Nuberol Forte is not recommended for children under 12 years of age.” |
| Searle’s prescribing information (July 2021) | “Orphenadrine may impair the ability of the patient to engage in potentially hazardous activities such as operating machinery or driving a motor vehicle”. Alcohol and other medicines that slow the brain (CNS depressants) “should be avoided”. |
| US orphenadrine citrate label (Lupin, revised October 2024) | “Infrequently, an elderly patient may experience some degree of mental confusion.” |
| US orphenadrine citrate label (Lupin, revised October 2024) | “Orphenadrine has been chronically abused for its euphoric effects. The mood elevating effects may occur at therapeutic doses of orphenadrine.” |
| UK orphenadrine SmPC (Rosemont, November 2023) | “For some patients orphenadrine may be a drug of abuse.” |
Searle’s prescribing information for Nuberol Forte does not mention abuse. Both abuse statements come from labels for orphenadrine on its own.
It also says the safety of continuous long-term orphenadrine “has not been established”, and recommends periodic blood, urine and liver tests if it is prescribed for prolonged use (Searle’s prescribing information (July 2021)).
Who must not take it
Searle’s prescribing information (July 2021) says Nuberol Forte must not be taken by people with:
- Warning: Glaucoma (raised pressure in the eye).
- Warning: An enlarged prostate, or a blockage where the bladder empties (“prostatic hypertrophy or obstruction at the bladder neck”).
- Warning: Myasthenia gravis, a condition of muscle weakness.
- Warning: Spasm of the food pipe (oesophagus), or a blockage where the stomach empties (pyloric or duodenal obstruction).
- Warning: An allergy to paracetamol or orphenadrine citrate.
Caution, from the same source: a fast heartbeat, heart failure, narrowed heart arteries or an irregular heartbeat (orphenadrine), and liver or kidney problems (paracetamol).
Other medicines and alcohol
From Searle’s prescribing information (July 2021). Tell the prescriber everything you take.
| Medicine | What happens |
|---|---|
| Any other medicine containing paracetamol or orphenadrine | Not recommended together. |
| Alcohol and other medicines that cause drowsiness (CNS depressants) | Should be avoided. Searle’s information also names alcohol among the “enzyme inducing agents” that may make paracetamol toxicity more likely. |
| Phenothiazines and other medicines with anticholinergic (anti-muscarinic) effects | Interactions with orphenadrine have been reported. |
| Blood thinners (anticoagulants) | Their dose may need lowering if paracetamol is taken for a long time. |
| Metoclopramide | Paracetamol is absorbed faster. |
| Propantheline, antidepressants with anticholinergic effects, opioid painkillers | Paracetamol is absorbed more slowly. |
| Chloramphenicol | Its levels may rise. |
| Anticonvulsants (epilepsy medicines) and other enzyme-inducing medicines | Paracetamol may be more likely to be toxic. |
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
Searle does not recommend it in pregnancy. Labels for orphenadrine on its own are less strict.
| Source | What it says |
|---|---|
| Searle’s prescribing information (July 2021) | “Pregnancy Category B2 NUBEROL FORTE is not recommended for use during pregnancy.” |
| US orphenadrine citrate label (Lupin) | Pregnancy Category C: “Orphenadrine should be given to a pregnant woman only if clearly needed.” |
| UK orphenadrine SmPC (Rosemont) | “There is inadequate evidence of safety in human pregnancy”; if considered necessary, orphenadrine should be used with caution. |
| Breastfeeding, Searle’s prescribing information (July 2021) | “NUBEROL FORTE should not be taken during lactation as orphenadrine and paracetamol are excreted into breast milk.” |
Side effects
Searle’s prescribing information (July 2021): side effects “are mainly due to the anti-cholinergic action of orphenadrine and are usually associated with higher doses.” It gives no frequencies in numbers.
| How often | Side effects |
|---|---|
| More common (orphenadrine) | Dry mouth, fast heartbeat, palpitations, difficulty or inability to pass urine, blurred vision, widened pupils, raised pressure in the eye, weakness, nausea, headache, dizziness, constipation, drowsiness. |
| Less common (orphenadrine) | Sedation, skin rashes and other allergic reactions (very uncommon); confusion in older people (infrequent); very rare cases of aplastic anaemia, a failure of the bone marrow. |
| Rare (paracetamol) | Indigestion, nausea, allergic and blood reactions; Searle notes a causal link has been “neither confirmed nor refuted”. |
Checking your pack is genuine
Check the pack before you take it.
- Check the batch number printed on the carton and on the blister strip. If it is DB0982, don’t take it: tell us, or report it to DRAP.
- Searle’s prescribing information describes genuine Nuberol Forte as “white, oblong scored tablets stamped ‘SEARLE’ on each side”, in strips of 5 (Searle’s prescribing information (July 2021)).
DRAP Alert No. I/S/02-25-20, 20 February 2025: The Drug Testing Laboratory, Sindh, declared batch DB0982 of “Nuberol Forte Tablets (Paracetamol & Orphenadrine citrate)” spurious: “Orphenadrine Citrate not identified.” The laboratory did not find orphenadrine, the muscle relaxant, in it. DRAP’s notice on its website describes the batch as “Purported to be manufactured by” Searle.
We buy only from authorised distributors, and check the batch and expiry on every item before it is packed.
Information as of 15 October 2026. DRAP publishes new alerts on dra.gov.pk.

Frequently asked questions
Can we take Panadol and Nuberol Forte together?
Not unless a doctor tells you to. Both contain paracetamol: Panadol tablets 500 mg, Nuberol Forte 650 mg per tablet, so taking both means taking paracetamol twice. Searle’s prescribing information says other medicines containing paracetamol are not recommended with Nuberol Forte, and the UK Panadol Original SmPC says “Do not use with any other paracetamol-containing products.” Too much paracetamol can cause severe liver damage.
Can I take Nuberol Forte twice a day?
Take it as your prescription says. Searle’s prescribing information gives it three times a day. However often you take it, don’t take any other medicine containing paracetamol with it, such as Panadol.
Is Nuberol a muscle relaxant?
Partly. Nuberol Forte contains orphenadrine citrate 50 mg, which Searle’s prescribing information calls “a skeletal muscle relaxant”, together with paracetamol 650 mg, a painkiller. Plain Nuberol, per DRAP’s registry, has the same two ingredients in smaller amounts: paracetamol 450 mg and orphenadrine citrate 35 mg.
What is the difference between Nuberol and Nuberol Forte?
The amount of each ingredient. DRAP’s registry lists Nuberol tablets as paracetamol 450 mg with orphenadrine citrate 35 mg, and Nuberol Forte as paracetamol 650 mg with orphenadrine citrate 50 mg. Both are made by Searle. Other Nuberol products, such as Nuberol Duo and Nuberol She, are different combinations, but all of them contain paracetamol.
Can Nuberol Forte make you sleepy?
Yes. Searle’s prescribing information lists drowsiness and dizziness among the more common side effects of its orphenadrine, and sedation as a less common one. It warns that orphenadrine may impair your ability to drive or operate machinery, and says alcohol and other medicines that cause drowsiness should be avoided.
Is Nuberol Forte safe for kidneys?
It needs care. Searle’s prescribing information says paracetamol should be used with caution in people with liver or kidney problems, and that a paracetamol overdose can cause severe liver damage and sometimes acute kidney damage (renal tubular necrosis). If you have kidney disease, ask your doctor before taking it.
Is Nuberol good for back pain?
It depends on the back pain. Searle’s prescribing information lists acute and traumatic conditions of the limbs and trunk, including sprains, strains and a prolapsed disc. Searle’s website adds chronic low back pain, but its prescribing information does not. Ask your doctor whether it suits yours.

DRAP registration
- Nuberol Forte Tablet (027196), The Searle Company Limited. DRAP’s registry shows: Reviewed, “Not Verified”.
DRAP publishes no definition of this verification flag, so we can’t tell you what it means. We searched DRAP’s website for “Nuberol” and “orphenadrine” on 16 October 2026 and found one alert naming a spurious batch of Nuberol Forte (under “Checking your pack is genuine”). When we tested it, the search did not find a word that appears only inside an alert’s attached PDF, so an alert that names a product only in its PDF may not show up. DRAP describes its registered products index as a provisional list that “cannot be used as a reference for any purpose”. Checked against the registry on .
