What Softin is
Softin (loratadine 10 mg) is an antihistamine used for hay fever and year-round nasal allergy and for long-lasting hives, according to the UK product information for Clarityn Allergy 10mg Tablets (Bayer). No Pakistani document we could find states its condition of sale, and we sell it without a prescription.
- Registered with DRAP under number 012026. (DRAP registry entry).
- Werrick Pharmaceuticals, Islamabad, holds the registration: DRAP’s own letters about Softin on the registration record are addressed to it.
- DRAP notifies a maximum price for Softin Tablets: Rs 109.69 for 10 tablets and Rs 315.89 for 30 (DRAP price index, 17 August 2026).
- We could not find a leaflet from Werrick online, so the clinical facts on this page come from the UK and US labels for loratadine 10 mg, each named where it is used.
- Before you order, check the liver, pregnancy and breastfeeding cautions below.
What is in each tablet
One active ingredient, from the label claim in DRAP’s registry: “Each film coated tablet contains: Loratadine...................10mg”.
| Ingredient | Amount per tablet |
|---|---|
| Loratadine | 10 mg |
What it is used for
Allergy symptoms. The UK and US labels word the uses differently.
| Label | Uses |
|---|---|
| UK, Clarityn Allergy (Bayer) | “the symptomatic treatment of allergic rhinitis and chronic idiopathic urticaria”: nose allergy such as hay fever, and long-lasting hives with no known cause. |
| US, Claritin (Bayer) | Temporary relief of hay fever and other upper respiratory allergy symptoms: runny nose; itchy, watery eyes; sneezing; itching of the nose or throat. |
Neither label lists sore throat, a throat infection, cough or flu as a use: the throat symptom the US label names is itching caused by allergy.
How to take it
Once a day, with or without food, according to the UK product information for Clarityn Allergy 10mg Tablets (Bayer).
- When it starts working: the UK label says its antihistamine effect is seen within 1 to 3 hours, peaks at 8 to 12 hours and lasts more than 24 hours.
- Children: the UK label gives the tablets from 6 years of age and over 30 kg body weight, and says other forms suit younger or lighter children. The US label says to ask a doctor for children under 6.
- Do not take more than directed: the US Drug Facts label for Claritin 10 mg tablets (Bayer) says taking more than directed may cause drowsiness.
Who should not take it, or should ask a doctor first
From the UK product information for Clarityn Allergy 10mg Tablets (Bayer) unless the US label is named.
- Must not take it: anyone allergic to loratadine or to any ingredient.
- Severe liver disease: the UK label says to use it with caution and sets a lower starting dose, so take it only as a doctor directs.
- Liver or kidney disease: the US label says to ask a doctor before use, who should decide whether a different dose is needed. The UK label says no dose change is needed for kidney problems.
- Lactose: the UK tablets contain lactose, and the UK label says people with rare hereditary galactose intolerance, Lapp lactase deficiency or glucose-galactose malabsorption should not take them. We haven’t seen Softin’s ingredient list, so ask our pharmacist if this applies to you.
Other medicines, alcohol and allergy tests
From the UK product information for Clarityn Allergy 10mg Tablets (Bayer), section 4.5 unless another is named.
| Medicine or other | What happens | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Medicines that block the liver enzymes CYP3A4 or CYP2D6 | What happens: Loratadine levels may rise, which may increase side effects. Ketoconazole (an antifungal), erythromycin (an antibiotic) and cimetidine (for stomach acid) raised loratadine levels in trials, without clinically significant changes, including on the ECG. | Source: UK, 4.5 |
| Alcohol | What happens: In tests of mental and physical performance, loratadine did not add to alcohol’s effects. | Source: UK, 4.5 |
| Allergy skin tests | What happens: Antihistamines can mask a positive result: the label says to stop loratadine at least 48 hours before skin tests. Tell the clinic you take it. | Source: UK, 4.4 |
| Food | What happens: The tablet may be taken without regard to mealtime. | Source: UK, 4.2 |
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
The UK label advises avoiding it in pregnancy as a precaution and does not recommend it when breastfeeding.
| Who | What the labels say |
|---|---|
| Pregnancy | UK: data from more than 1,000 pregnancies show no malformations or harm to the baby, but as a precaution it is preferable to avoid it during pregnancy. US: ask a health professional before use. |
| Breastfeeding | UK: loratadine passes into breast milk, so it is not recommended. US: ask a health professional before use. |
Side effects
In trials, side effects were reported in 2% more people on loratadine than on placebo; the most frequent were sleepiness, headache, increased appetite and difficulty sleeping (UK product information for Clarityn Allergy 10mg Tablets (Bayer)).
| How often | Side effects |
|---|---|
| In trials, above placebo | Sleepiness (1.2%), headache (0.6%), increased appetite (0.5%), difficulty sleeping (0.1%). |
| In children aged 2 to 12, in trials | Headache (2.7%), nervousness (2.3%), tiredness (1%). |
| Very rare, after marketing | Dizziness, fits; fast heartbeat, palpitations; nausea, dry mouth, stomach inflammation; abnormal liver function; rash, hair loss; tiredness. |
| Very rare, serious | Allergic reactions, including swelling under the skin (angioedema) and anaphylaxis. The US label says to stop and seek medical help right away. |
Driving: the UK label says loratadine has no or negligible effect on driving, but very rarely some people feel drowsy, which may affect their ability to drive or use machines.
Softin, Softin-F and Softin-OD are different medicines
Werrick sells other products under the Softin name, and they don’t all contain loratadine. This page sells Softin Tablets only.
| Product | What it contains, from DRAP’s label claim |
|---|---|
| Softin Tablets (DRAP reg. 012026) | Loratadine 10 mg per tablet: this page. |
| Softin Syrup (DRAP reg. 024780) | Loratadine 5 mg in each 5 ml (registry entry). We don’t sell it here. |
| Softin-F Tablets (DRAP reg. 060846 for 120 mg) | Fexofenadine, a different medicine, in 60, 120 and 180 mg tablets. |
| Softin-OD Tablets (DRAP reg. 065168) | Desloratadine 5 mg, a different medicine. |
If your prescription or old pack says Softin-F or Softin-OD, this is not the same medicine: ask our pharmacist before ordering.
Checking your pack is genuine
As of 22 October 2026, we found no DRAP alert, recall or rapid alert naming Softin or Werrick.
- Check that the batch number on the carton matches the batch number on the blister inside, and that the pack is sealed.
We buy only from authorised distributors, and check the batch and expiry on every item before it is packed.
Information as of 22 October 2026. DRAP publishes new alerts on dra.gov.pk.
Returns and replacements
Medicines and supplements can’t be returned once they have left our pharmacy.
- Returned medicine can never go back into saleable stock. That is a safety rule, not a commercial one.
- If an item arrives damaged or wrong, tell us on WhatsApp within 24 hours and we replace it. That is us fixing our mistake, not a return.
- Anything that arrives expired or within a month of expiry we replace or refund, your choice, with no time limit.
Frequently asked questions
What is Softin Tablet 10mg used for?
Softin contains loratadine, an antihistamine. The UK label for loratadine 10 mg tablets lists hay fever and other nasal allergy, and long-lasting hives with no known cause (chronic idiopathic urticaria). The US label lists runny nose, sneezing, itchy watery eyes and itching of the nose or throat due to hay fever or other upper respiratory allergies.
Is Softin used for throat problems?
Only for throat itching caused by an allergy: the US label lists itching of the nose or throat among hay fever symptoms. None of the labels we read lists sore throat or a throat infection as a use. For a sore throat with fever, or one that lasts, see a doctor.
Does Softin make you sleepy?
Not usually. In trials, sleepiness was reported in 1.2% more people on loratadine than on placebo, according to the UK label, which also says very rarely some people feel drowsy enough to affect driving. The US label says taking more than directed may cause drowsiness.
How long does Softin 10 mg tab take to work?
The UK label for loratadine says its antihistamine effect is seen within 1 to 3 hours, peaks at 8 to 12 hours and lasts more than 24 hours. The labels give it once a day.
Do you need a prescription to buy Softin Tablet 10mg?
We sell it without a prescription. No Pakistani document we could find states its condition of sale: we found no Werrick leaflet online, and DRAP’s registry record has no such field. In the UK the same medicine is sold without a prescription, and in the US it is sold over the counter.
Is Softin syrup the same as Softin tablets?
It contains the same medicine, loratadine, at 5 mg in each 5 ml, according to DRAP’s registry. For a child, ask a doctor which form and how much to give. This page sells the tablets, not the syrup.

DRAP publishes no definition of this verification flag, so we can’t tell you what it means. We searched DRAP’s website for “Softin”, “Werrick” and “loratadine” on 22 October 2026 and found no alert naming Softin or Werrick; the loratadine results were recall alerts for other companies’ products. When we tested it, the search did not find a word that appears only inside an alert’s attached PDF, so an alert that names a product only in its PDF may not show up. DRAP describes its registered products index as a provisional list that “cannot be used as a reference for any purpose”. Checked against the registry on .
