What Evion is
- Prescription: the older Pakistani Evion 400 mg carton reads “To be sold on the prescription of a registered medical practitioner only.”, and the same line appears, partly covered, on the current Martin Dow carton. We dispense it on prescription.
- Evion LC, Evion cream and Evion drops are not the same products: DRAP’s registry has no registration for any of them in Pakistan, and we do not sell them.
- Milligrams, not IU: Evion’s strengths are in mg. The US National Institutes of Health’s fact sheet says 1 IU of the synthetic form equals 0.45 mg of alpha-tocopherol, so Evion 400 mg is not the same as a 400 IU capsule.
- DRAP’s price index has no Evion entry, and the 400 mg pack is De-Controlled.
Strengths, with DRAP registration
From DRAP’s registry where it gives a label claim, and from the maker’s listing where it does not.
| Strength | Active ingredient | Source |
|---|---|---|
| 200 mg | Active ingredient: Tocopheryl acetate 200 mg | Source: DRAP registry record for Evion Capsules 200 mg |
| 400 mg | Active ingredient: DL-alpha tocopheryl acetate 400 mg | Source: DRAP registry (DRAP reg. 008754) |
| 600 mg | Active ingredient: DL-alpha tocopheryl acetate | Source: DRAP registry (DRAP reg. 016099) gives no label claim; maker’s listing |
DRAP registers the 400 mg in boxes of 10 x 10 capsules in blister strips; we sell a strip of 10. Martin Dow’s pack picture shows green 200 mg, red 400 mg and gold 600 mg boxes.
The 200 mg registry record’s number field holds the text “EVION CAPSULES 200 M” rather than a registration number; DRAP also has a 200 mg record numbered 008753, which gives no label claim.
What it is used for, and what the evidence says
The maker’s Pakistani listing gives a long list of uses; the US National Institutes of Health is more cautious. Both are shown.
| Source | What it says |
|---|---|
| Pakistan, Martin Dow Marker (product listing) | Covering vitamin E requirements; muscle and connective-tissue disease, calf cramps, intermittent claudication, male and female fertility disorders, immunity, digitalis intoxication, acute respiratory distress syndrome, keloid, acrodermatitis, Peyronie’s disease (induratio penis plastica), fibrocystic breast disease, atherosclerosis and coronary artery disease, and collagen diseases. |
| US, National Institutes of Health | Clinical trials have not provided evidence that routine use of vitamin E supplements prevents cardiovascular disease or reduces its illness and deaths. |
| UK, Metaperex 400 IU (a different form) | Licensed only for vitamin E deficiency in people diagnosed with ataxia with vitamin E deficiency (AVED). |
How much is too much
Take it as your doctor prescribes. No Pakistani source we found states a maximum or a duration; the limits below are from the US National Institutes of Health’s vitamin E fact sheet for health professionals.
- Adults: the US National Institutes of Health’s fact sheet sets the tolerable upper intake level for supplemental vitamin E at 1,000 mg a day, and says long-term intakes above it increase the risk of adverse health effects. Count every supplement containing vitamin E towards it.
- Children and teenagers: the same fact sheet gives an upper limit of 200 to 800 mg a day depending on age, and says breast milk, formula and food should be the only sources of vitamin E for infants.
- With food: the UK leaflet for Metaperex, a 400 IU vitamin E capsule says take it during or after a meal.
Who should check with a doctor first
Ask your doctor before taking Evion if any of these apply; the UK leaflet for Metaperex, a 400 IU vitamin E capsule, and the US fact sheet are the sources.
| Who | What the sources say |
|---|---|
| Blood thinners or antiplatelet medicines (warfarin, aspirin, clopidogrel) | UK, Metaperex: taking vitamin E with these may increase the risk of bleeding. US, NIH: especially with low vitamin K intake. |
| Vitamin K deficiency | UK, Metaperex: do not take it (increased risk of bleeding). |
| Cancer chemotherapy or radiotherapy | US, NIH: oncologists generally advise against antioxidant supplements during treatment, because they might reduce its effectiveness. |
| Orlistat, colestyramine, colestipol, or iron medicines | UK, Metaperex: these reduce vitamin E absorption; leave at least 2 hours between them. |
| Oestrogen, or poor kidney function | UK, Metaperex: tell your doctor first. |
| Men taking it long term | UK, Metaperex: long-term vitamin E supplements (400 IU daily) may increase the risk of prostate cancer. |
Side effects
The UK leaflet for Metaperex, a 400 IU vitamin E capsule, lists side effects including stomach upset, tiredness and headache.
| Kind | What it lists |
|---|---|
| Stomach and gut | Nausea, diarrhoea, flatulence, abdominal pain and oral pain. |
| General | Unusual tiredness or weakness; headache and dizziness; blurred vision; rash. |
| Severe allergic reaction | Rash, swelling including of the lips, breathlessness or difficulty breathing, skin redness and inflammation, and blisters. |
| High doses | Gastrointestinal disorders such as nausea, diarrhoea and flatulence have been reported with daily doses above 700 mg. |
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
Ask your doctor before taking Evion if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
| Who | What the sources say |
|---|---|
| Pregnancy | UK, Metaperex: doses of vitamin E above the recommended daily allowance should not be used in pregnancy. |
| Breastfeeding | UK, Metaperex: vitamin E passes into breast milk, and doses above the recommended daily allowance should not be used by nursing mothers. |
Checking your pack is genuine
We searched DRAP’s website for alerts naming Evion; the result is shown under DRAP registration above.
- Check the carton: current Evion boxes are Martin Dow’s, colour-coded green for 200 mg, red for 400 mg and gold for 600 mg, each 10 x 10 soft gelatin capsules. Older white boxes carry Merck’s name, the holder before Martin Dow Marker. The batch and expiry on the strip should match the box.
- If anything looks wrong, do not use it. Send us a photo of the box and strip on WhatsApp, and report it to DRAP.
We buy only from authorised distributors, and check the batch and expiry on every item before it is packed.
Information as of 4 November 2026. DRAP publishes new alerts on dra.gov.pk.
Returns and replacements
Medicines and supplements can’t be returned once they have left our pharmacy.
- Returned medicine can never go back into saleable stock. That is a safety rule, not a commercial one.
- If an item arrives damaged or wrong, tell us on WhatsApp within 24 hours and we replace it. That is us fixing our mistake, not a return.
- Anything that arrives expired or within a month of expiry we replace or refund, your choice, with no time limit.
Frequently asked questions
What is Evion 400 used for?
Evion is vitamin E. Martin Dow Marker’s product listing says it covers vitamin E requirements and lists uses such as muscle cramps, intermittent claudication and fertility disorders. The US National Institutes of Health says trials have not shown routine vitamin E supplements prevent heart disease.
Is Evion good for skin and hair?
Martin Dow Marker’s product listing names keloid and acrodermatitis among its uses, but not hair, skin glow or general skin care. Taking it for appearance is not a use the maker lists; ask your doctor.
What is the difference between Evion 200, 400 and 600?
Only the amount of vitamin E in each capsule. DRAP’s registry lists the 400 mg as dl-alpha tocopheryl acetate 400 mg; Martin Dow Marker’s listing gives the same ingredient for all three strengths. Your doctor decides which strength you need.
How much vitamin E is safe a day?
The US National Institutes of Health sets the upper limit for supplemental vitamin E at 1,000 mg a day for adults and 200 to 800 mg for children depending on age, and says long-term intakes above it increase the risk of harm. Take Evion only as prescribed.
Can I take Evion with blood thinners?
Ask your doctor first. The US National Institutes of Health says large doses of vitamin E with anticoagulant or antiplatelet medicines such as warfarin can increase the risk of bleeding. The UK leaflet for Metaperex names aspirin and clopidogrel too.
Can I take Evion in pregnancy?
Only if your doctor advises it. The UK leaflet for Metaperex, a vitamin E capsule, says doses above the recommended daily allowance should not be used in pregnancy or while breastfeeding.
Is Evion the same as Evion LC?
No. DRAP’s registry has no registration for Evion LC, Evion cream or Evion drops in Pakistan. We sell only the plain Evion capsules.
What is the price of Evion in Pakistan?
DRAP’s price index has no Evion entry. Our prices for the 400 mg and 600 mg strips are shown above, and we confirm the 200 mg price on WhatsApp.

DRAP publishes no definition of this verification flag, so we can’t tell you what it means. We searched DRAP’s website for “Evion” and “tocopheryl” on 4 November 2026 and found no alert naming Evion. When we tested it, the search did not find a word that appears only inside an alert’s attached PDF, so an alert that names a product only in its PDF may not show up.
