What Calamox is
Calamox (co-amoxiclav: amoxicillin with clavulanic acid) is a penicillin-type antibiotic for bacterial infections such as sinusitis, middle-ear infection, chest infections and pneumonia, bladder and kidney infections, skin and soft tissue infections including animal bites and severe dental abscess, and bone and joint infections, according to Bosch’s Pakistani leaflet for Calamox. The leaflet says it is to be sold on prescription only, so we dispense it on prescription.
- Calamox is not plain amoxicillin: every form contains both amoxicillin and clavulanic acid, according to DRAP’s registry.
- Made by Bosch Pharmaceuticals in Karachi: Bosch’s own product page lists Calamox as co-amoxiclav, an antibiotic of the penicillin group, in tablets, suspensions, drops and injections.
- The NHS says antibiotics do not work for viral infections such as colds and flu, and most coughs.
- DRAP controls Calamox’s prices: its price index sets Rs 244.36 for 6 tablets of 625 mg and Rs 309.22 for 6 of 1 g, effective 27 July 2026, and we charge less. DRAP’s registry still shows lower approved prices for those two packs (Rs 225.77 and Rs 285.69); the index is the later figure.
The strengths, and how much of each ingredient
The number on the pack is the two ingredients added together, and the ratio between them is not the same in every strength.
| Form | Amoxicillin | Clavulanic acid | Ratio |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tablet 375 mg | Amoxicillin: 250 mg | Clavulanic acid: 125 mg | Ratio: 2:1 |
| Tablet 625 mg | Amoxicillin: 500 mg | Clavulanic acid: 125 mg | Ratio: 4:1 |
| Tablet 1 g | Amoxicillin: 875 mg | Clavulanic acid: 125 mg | Ratio: 7:1 |
| Suspension 156.25 mg/5 ml | Amoxicillin: 125 mg per 5 ml | Clavulanic acid: 31.25 mg per 5 ml | Ratio: 4:1 |
| DS suspension 312.5 mg/5 ml | Amoxicillin: 250 mg per 5 ml | Clavulanic acid: 62.5 mg per 5 ml | Ratio: 4:1 |
| Duo suspension 457 mg/5 ml | Amoxicillin: 400 mg per 5 ml | Clavulanic acid: 57 mg per 5 ml | Ratio: 7:1 |
| Drops 62.5 mg/ml | Amoxicillin: 50 mg per ml | Clavulanic acid: 12.5 mg per ml | Ratio: 4:1 |
Because the ratios differ, one strength can’t simply be swapped for another by counting milligrams. Your doctor chooses the strength.

What it is used for
Bacterial infections only. Pakistan’s leaflet and the UK label for the 625 mg tablet list the same infections.
| Source | Uses |
|---|---|
| Pakistan, Bosch (Calamox) | Acute bacterial sinusitis; acute middle-ear infection (otitis media); flare-ups of chronic bronchitis; community-acquired pneumonia; cystitis; kidney infection (pyelonephritis); skin and soft tissue infections, in particular cellulitis, animal bites and severe dental abscess with spreading cellulitis; bone and joint infections, in particular osteomyelitis. |
| UK, Augmentin 625mg | The same eight infections. |
How to take it
The dose depends on the product, body weight and kidney function, according to Bosch’s Pakistani leaflet for Calamox, so the choice belongs to your prescriber. Take it as they direct.
- With food: the Pakistani leaflet says take it at the start of a meal, to reduce stomach upset and help absorption.
- How long: the Pakistani leaflet says treatment should not be extended beyond 14 days without review.
- Suspensions and drops, once made up: the Pakistani leaflet says store them in a refrigerator, don’t freeze them, and use them within 7 days. Ask our pharmacist to make them up if you’re unsure.
- Drops: the Pakistani leaflet says give them by mouth with the doser supplied, with children dosed by body weight.
Who should not take it, or should ask a doctor first
Pakistan’s oral leaflet and the UK label differ on liver history, so both are shown.
| Who | What the sources say |
|---|---|
| Allergy to antibiotics | Pakistan and UK: must not be used with an allergy to any penicillin, or a history of a severe immediate allergic reaction, such as anaphylaxis, to another beta-lactam (a cephalosporin, carbapenem or monobactam). |
| Jaundice or liver problems with co-amoxiclav before | UK, and Bosch’s leaflet for the Calamox injection: must not be used. Bosch’s leaflet for the tablets, suspensions and drops doesn’t list this, but says to use it with caution where there is evidence of liver impairment. Tell your doctor about any past liver problem with an antibiotic. |
| Glandular fever (infectious mononucleosis) | UK: should be avoided if glandular fever is suspected, because a measles-like rash has been linked with amoxicillin in this condition. |

Ask your doctor before taking it if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Side effects
Diarrhoea is very common, and feeling or being sick is common, according to Bosch’s Pakistani leaflet for Calamox.

Calamox is also registered as 1.2 g (DRAP reg. 021508), 0.6 g (DRAP reg. 021507) and 0.3 g (DRAP reg. 057750) injections. Bosch’s leaflet for the injection says it is given slowly into a vein, by injection or infusion, and is not suitable for injection into a muscle.
We don’t sell the injection online: it is given in a clinic or hospital.
Checking your pack is genuine
DRAP has named one spurious batch of Calamox 1g tablets, C240712. If your pack’s batch number is C240712, do not take it.
- Check that the batch number on the carton matches the batch number on the strip inside, and that the pack is sealed.
- The genuine 625mg carton says Calamox (Co-amoxiclav) Tablets 625mg, 6 Tablets, with Bosch’s name. If a pack looks different from your last one, ask our pharmacist before taking it.
- If anything looks wrong, do not take it. Send us a photo of the carton and strip on WhatsApp, and report it to DRAP.

DRAP publishes no definition of this verification flag, so we can’t tell you what it means. We searched DRAP’s website for “Calamox”, “co-amoxiclav” and “Bosch” on 28 October 2026 and found one alert naming a spurious batch of Calamox 1g tablets, C240712 (below); the other Bosch alerts concerned other products. When we tested it, the search did not find a word that appears only inside an alert’s attached PDF, so an alert that names a product only in its PDF may not show up. DRAP describes its registered products index as a provisional list that “cannot be used as a reference for any purpose”. Checked against the registry on .
